Cargo Film & Releasing handles all incoming requests for screenings and licensing.

Below is an overview of the available formats and their corresponding rates.

Thank you so much for your interest in the film.

ONE-TIME SCREENING /PPR - $495

A One-Time Screening License (often bundled with PPR, or Public Performance Rights) is a legal agreement that permits an organization to show a copyrighted film or video to an audience exactly once.

You legally need this license if your screening meets two criteria:

  1. It takes place in a public or shared space (such as an auditorium, park, library, student lounge, or community center).

  2. It is an extracurricular or community event. This includes student club movie nights, campus entertainment events, film festivals, or public outreach lectures.

DIGITAL SITE LICENSE (DSL) - $495

A Digital Site License (DSL) is a legal agreement that allows an organization—most commonly a university, school, library, or corporation—to host, stream, or distribute digital content across its entire network.

How a Digital Site License Works

  • Local Hosting: The purchasing organization receives a high-quality digital file (like an H.264 video). They host it on their own internal, password-protected server or a secure third-party streaming platform.

  • Restricted Access: Access is restricted to authenticated users—such as current students, faculty, or staff. The general public cannot access it.

• • Unlimited, Concurrent Streaming: Unlike a physical DVD, which can only be watched by one classroom at a time, a DSL allows unlimited simultaneous viewers to stream the film on-demand for classes, research, or training.

DSL + PPR - $695

A DSL + PPR Bundle combines a Digital Site License and Public Performance Rights into a single purchase. It gives an institution the ultimate flexibility: the legal right to stream a film digitally on campus and host live group screenings.

To understand the power of the bundle, look at how the two rights divide the labor:

  • The DSL Side (Digital Site License): This covers individual, on-demand streaming. It allows the library to host the movie file on a secure server so that a student can watch it at 2:00 AM on their laptop for a research paper, or a professor can assign it as homework.

  • The PPR Side (Public Performance Rights): This covers group viewing. It allows a student club to project the film in the auditorium for a Friday movie night, or a campus culture center to host a public screening with a post-film panel discussion.

What the Bundle Allows Your Institution to Do

If your university, school, or library purchases a DSL + PPR package, you are permitted to:

  • Embed the film in online course portals (like Canvas or Blackboard) for remote learning.

  • Allow unlimited, simultaneous student streaming from dorms or off-campus locations via VPN.

  • Host a live, in-person campus screening for Earth Day, Black History Month, or other events.

  • Invite the general public to a free campus screening (provided you don't charge admission).

Common Restrictions to Keep in Mind

Even with the combined bundle, distributors still enforce a few universal rules:

  • No Charging Admission: You cannot sell tickets or use the screening as a commercial, paid fundraiser unless you negotiate a separate commercial license.

  • Password Protection: The digital streaming link (DSL) must be locked behind a password, single sign-on (SSO), or IP-range. You cannot post the video file on a public YouTube channel or open website.

• • Geographic Limits: The PPR screening rights are almost always tied to the physical campus or facility of the purchasing institution. You cannot use the license to host a screening at a different off-campus venue

Please contact Eli Kilpatrick from Cargo if you have further questions. If you would like me to attend for a Q&A session, please reach out to me directly to arrange that. Thank you so much for your interest in the film.

I’ve partnered with Gathr and Abramorama to bring you a new way to view the film!

Theatrical on Demand® is a crowdsourcing tool that allows screening hosts to select a venue from Gathr’s network of over 4,000 theaters nationwide. The screening is only confirmed—and hosts' cards are charged—if enough tickets are reserved in advance to meet a minimum threshold based on the theater's rental rate.
